Research
At the intersection of biology and chemistry are the chemistries of life. Our work focuses on the emergence and evolution of these chemistries in early systems, particularly the sugar and amino acid biopolymers. My research interests include the ubiquities of these biopolymers across phylogeny, the emergence of the biochemical systems in which they participate, and the roles of inorganic cations, water, other molecules, and physicochemical factors in their synthesis, folding, function, evolution, mutualism, and persistence.
