Awards recognize efforts and achievements in mentoring other faculty.

Young-Hui Chang has been appointed associate dean of Faculty in the College of Sciences, effective July 1, 2023. Chang, a professor in the School of Biological Sciences, has served as associate chair for Faculty Development in Biological Sciences.

Jennifer Curtis, professor in the School of Physics, will serve as ADVANCE Professor for the College of Sciences, effective July 1, 2023. Curtis will continue efforts to support the community and advancement of women and minorities in academia.

This month, dozens of College of Sciences faculty and teaching assistants are recognized by Georgia Tech for their excellence in instruction and research.

The honor for Agarwal, an assistant professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, comes on the heels of a recent NSF CAREER Award. Both recognize Agarwal’s marine natural products studies and his commitment to teaching.

Awarded to Lily Cheung and Simon Sponberg, the grants will fund cutting-edge research in their fields.

C. David Sherrill, Regents’ Professor with joint appointments in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and School of Computational Science and Engineering, is recognized for research into quantum chemistry, and his outreach.

The team’s six-year grant is part of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence 3 initiative, and is one of 104 new grants funded through an overall initiative that’s allocating $60 million over six years and several phases.
