Professors David Collard and Boris Mizaikoff have received an Institute award for 2005.
The Faculty Research Awards are sponsored by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies each year. This particular award is given in recognition of the achievements of a faculty member's doctoral students who completed all degree requirements from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2004. The main focus of Dr. Collard's research is the molecular self-assembly in polymers which allows for the formation of new supermolecular architectures that take on new functions and promise potential benefits and novel applications. Each awardee is given $5,000; $1,000 for the recipient's personal use and $4,000 for the support of his/her research. The awards are presented each spring at the Faculty/Staff Honors Luncheon. This year it is scheduled for April 13, 2005.
The Class of 1934 Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activities award given to Prof. Boris Mizaikoff, recognizes faculty who have made significant interdisciplinary contributions to teaching and research. It is becoming increasingly clear that many opportunities for innovative teaching and research involve intellectual efforts from more than one discipline. The Institute, through its opportunities for joint appointments, is encouraging such activity. This award has been made possible through the generosity of the Class of 1934. It includes a stipend of $7,500.
Prof. Mizaikoff is also the recipient of the Pittcon Achievement Award for 2005.
